Martin Roscheisen’s infrequent but welcomed blog over at Nanosolar’s website has posted an interesting video, showing the company’s proprietary nanoparticle ink dispensing tool that the company claims was running at a 100 feet-per-minute speed.
The tool is a key part of Nanosolar’s claims to be planning 1GW output per annum from just one of these roll-to-roll coating machines. Indeed, Roscheisen claims that its coater machine could run up to 2000 feet per minute with the result of even better coating quality and all for the cost of $1.65 million. Impressive stuff indeed!
The video is also a nice piece of free publicity for Nanosolar but the company has yet to detail when volume production will commence and at what scale that volume production will be. Importantly, they have yet to reveal expected production conversion efficiencies or average figures, other than lab tests claiming 14-percent-plus efficiency levels.
Is Nanosolar a truly disruptive company?
Not yet, but let’s hope we see that gigawatt output soon and we can all decide whether their technology will be game-changing or not.
