Cabot Consultants, the national search firm with practice areas in technology, clean tech, and renewable energy, has announced its first annual list of "Women to Watch in Solar Energy."
The five women named as important in the US solar energy sector are Julie Blunden, VP, public policy and corporate communications for SunPower; Martha Duggan, VP, regulatory and government affairs, for United Solar Ovonic; Julia Hamm, executive director of the Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA); Monique Hanis, director of communications, Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA); and Nancy Hartsoch, VP, marketing and sales for SolFocus, and director of the CPV Consortium.
Blunden is responsible for public relations, financial relations, public policy, and market development at SunPower and has also been a consultant on energy markets, renewable resources and policy to industry, utilities and state and federal governments, supporting Arnold Schwarzenegger back in 2004.
Duggan works with policy makers, industry experts, professional associations and local, state and federal leaders in the development of solar programs at United Solar Ovonic. She also serves on the board of SEIA, serves as the chair of SEIA's Policy Committee, and is also on the board of the Solar Alliance.
Prior to running SEPA, Hamm worked as a senior associate at ICF International, a leading consulting firm in the areas of energy and environment, where she supported the US Environmental Protection Agency with the implementation of the Energy Star program. Hamm is also the chair of Solar Power International and is on the board of directors of the Interstate Renewable Energy Council.
Hanis is responsible for SEIA's industry communications to support the trade group's lobbying efforts and promoting expansion of the U.S. solar energy market. Hanis has also written, edited and published several industry books, surveys and articles; she lives in Arlington, Virginia in a home with solar-powered water heater and a 2.7kW PV solar energy system.
Hartsoch runs SolFocus's product marketing, collaborative partnerships, marketing services and business development activities. As director of the CPV Consortium, a global organization comprised of members from all segments of the CPV industry, Hartsoch leads the group's efforts to support the development and ensure the success of CPV as a mainstream energy source.
According to Kathy Epstein of Cabot Consultants, "The energy industry is changing rapidly. And from industry leading companies across the country to Washington, these accomplished women are each shaping America's new energy future."

Jeannine Sargent, CEO at Oerlikon Solar. She is the first CEO for Oerlikon Solar and oversees all of OC Oerlikon Corpororation solar-related business. Merideth Sterkl, the CA PUC Director of the California Solar Initiative. She was a founder of the group that started measuring greenhouse gasses in CA and she has been a leader in designing the incentive structure in California. The California Solar Initiative is probably the biggest customer of solar in the world.
Bettina Weiss, Director of the SEMI PV Group is leading the international PV standards effort and working closely with the DOE, the Academy of Sciences and European leaders on PV technology roadmaps. She's also the leading advocate for PV manufacturing EHS Best Practices and much more.
