Next Solar to use Oerlikon technology in thin-film plant construction

OerlikonNext Solar, a new solar panel manufacturer based in Tripoli, Greece, has announced that it is to be use Oerlikon’s micromorph technology in the establishment of its first thin-film solar module factory. Oerlikon will deliver the turnkey production line this year, while Next Solar’s fabrication line will start production in early 2009.

Initially, the capacity of the plant will be 30MWp, with an option to increase capacity to 60MWp. Next Solar’s 1,500m2 cleanroom facility will house equipment for the production line, which will use glass (130cm x 110cm) as its raw material in the production of installation-ready PV modules.

The company expects the plant to create 140-plus specialized jobs in the Tripoli area.
