Solar Holdings Co., Ltd. has announced its appointment of Dr. Elmer Hsu
(pictured) as Chief Operating Officer, effective from August 1st, 2008. Dr. Hsu,
an independent director for JA Solar since September 2007, replaces Dr.
Kang Sun, who has announced his intention to resign his roles as
President, COO and board director to pursue other interests.
Bringing over 30 years’ operations, management and development experience to the company, Dr. Hsu has held executive roles with companies such as Hughes Electronics Company and Lockheed Electronics Company. He has a Master’s degree in mathematics and statistics and a Ph.D., both from the University of Louisiana.
Dr. Hsu will, with his new role, change his title from independent director to director, and will be replaced in the independent directorial role by Dr. Robert Jih-chang Yang, effective July 9, 2008.
Dr. Yang, who now sits on the Board of Directors as an independent director, also brings over 30 years of experience in technology research and management to the company. Former roles include a time as senior advisor to the Chairman and CEO of SESODA; CEO of Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute Co., Ltd.; VP and General Director at Energy and Resources Laboratories (ERL) Research Institute; and researcher at General Electric. He has a B.Sc. from National Taiwan University and a Ph.D. from the University of Washington, both qualifications in mechanical engineering.
