EMCORE’s photovoltaic revenues increased 63 percent in third quarter

EMCORE Corporation has announced that its photovoltaics revenue
increased 63 percent for the third quarter of fiscal 2007 to $16.9
million compared to $10.4 million reported last year. This is an
increase of 24 percent Q-on-Q.

China Sunergy, one of a growing number of solar cell manufacturers, may
have seen sales and shipments increase over 100 percent year-on-year
but was unable to a make a profit in its most recent quarter having
been hit by a series of factors that could easily affect others in the
market in the coming months.

Overall revenues are expected to be flat, down 5 percent for Applied
Materials' next financial quarter due to memory manufacturers' CapEx
spending declining. With little boost in spending coming from the
major foundries, the ray of sunshine is coming from the company's
thin-film solar equipment sales, according to Michael Splinter,
President and Chief Executive Officer of Applied Materials.
