SunPower’s Korean ingot plant JV starts production

Woongjin Energy Corp.SunPower Corporation has said that its joint venture polysilicon ingot pulling plant in DaeJeon City, Korea will be officially opened on November 28th. Woongjin Energy Corp operates the new 46,200-square-meter plant with DC Chemical, Korea's largest chemical company, supplying a new source of polysilicon.
 
"With the dedication of this factory, we have taken another meaningful step in expanding our supply portfolio," said PM Pai, Chief Operating Officer at SunPower Corp. "We are pleased that construction on this factory was completed on time and that manufacturing has begun."

SunPower is purchasing approximately $250 million of silicon ingots from the joint venture through a five-year supply agreement, equivalent to 80 percent of the expected ingot output through the contracted period.
