NorSun to start Saudi Arabia JV polysilicon plant project

NorSun has formed a Joint Venture with Saudi Arabian companies
Swicorp-Joussour (Swicorp) and Chemical Development Company (CDC) to
build and operate a new polysilicon plant with an initial capacity
equivalent to 500MW per year. The plant will be established in the
industrial city of Jubail in Saudi Arabia.

SunPower Corporation has secured a large polysilicon supply beginning
in 2012 from a new polysilicon plant being located in Saudi Arabia. Two
signed agreements will support in aggregate 2,500 megawatts of solar
cell production, the company said.

NanoGram Corporation has secured a third round of funding to the tune
of $32 million that will be used to accelerate the development of
NanoGram’s proprietary silicon solar technology and its advanced
nano-materials solutions for flat panel displays, solid state lighting,
lithium-ion batteries, and printed electronics, the company said.

As part of Solland Solar Cells’ planned capacity ramps, the crystalline
silicon cell producer has secured a new and extended multi-crystalline
silicon wafer supply deal with Renewable Energy Corp (REC) that runs
through 2015 and is worth approximately €500 million to the company.
The agreement is structured as a take-and-pay contract with
pre-determined prices and volumes for the entire contract period.

LDK Solar has signed a 10-year ‘Take or Pay’ contract to supply
multicrystalline wafers and polysilicon with major PV manufacturer
Q-Cells AG. LDK Solar will deliver more than 6 gigawatts of
multicrystalline solar wafers to Q-Cells over a ten-year period
commencing in 2009 through 2018, the company said.

SunPower Corporation has signed a five-year agreement with Jiawei
SolarChina Co., Ltd. (Jiawei) to secure a supply of monocrystalline
silicon ingots and silicon wafers, beginning in 2008. The deal is
expected to enable SunPower to produce the equivalent of 900MW during
the agreement period.

ersol Solar Energy AG has said that another new polysilicon supply
contract with Wacker Chemie AG has been signed that secures 300MWp of
crystalline solar cell capacity from 2010 onwards and lasts for 9
years. The forward-looking move is due to ersol Solar’s expecting
persistent polysilicon supply constraints far beyond current market
expectations.

LDK Solar has secured 312 metric tons of polysilicon to be delivered in
2008, the company said at a ceremony to celebrate the completion of
site preparations and the beginning of construction of its major
polysilicon plant in China. The company did not disclose the
polysilicon suppliers.

Yingli Green Energy has made further polysilicon supply procurements
and furnace purchases in its bid to double production in 2008 from
200MW to 400MW in polysilicon ingots, wafers, PV cells and PV modules.
A new polysilicon supply agreement with an unidentified supplier adds
40MW of PV modules over the life of three separate contracts, according
to the company. Yingli currently expects the delivery of the
polysilicon under the contracts to be completed by the end of the first
quarter of 2008.

SunPower Corporation has said that its joint venture polysilicon ingot
pulling plant in DaeJeon City, Korea will be officially opened on
November 28th. Woongjin Energy Corp operates the new
46,200-square-meter plant with DC Chemical, Korea's largest chemical
company, supplying a new source of polysilicon.
