Timminco to supply Q-Cells in major solar-grade silicon deal

TimminicoBecancour Silicon, Inc. (BSI), a division of Timminco, has entered into an agreement to supply solar-grade silicon to Q-Cells AG. Q-Cells will receive 410 metric tons in 2008 and 3,000 metric tons in 2009 at fixed prices. Read more >>

NREL boosts CIGS thin-film solar cell efficiency to record 19.9 percent

NRELThe U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory has claimed a new world record for copper indium gallium diselenide (CIGS) thin-film solar cell conversion efficiency of 19.9 percent. In 1994, NREL researchers had touted CIGS cell efficiencies of only 11 percent. The conversion efficiency for CIGS is now close to that of multicrystalline silicon-based solar cells, according to NREL. Read more >>

Timminco to boost metallurgical grade solar silicon production to 14,400 metric tons

TimmincoCanada-based metals feedstock producer Timminco is set to boost metallurgical grade solar silicon production to 14,400 metric tons annually after its successful ramp of the first of three 1,200 metric ton lines at its recently completed plant in Becancour, Quebec.
