20 January 2010 | By Emma Hughes | News > Power Generation

EDF Energies Nouvelles has released the report on its solar activities ending December 31, 2009. Capacity in service almost quadrupled from 20.8MWp at  December 31, 2008 to 80.9MWp at December 31, 2009. Overall, capacity in service or under construction at year-end 2009 came to 219.7MWp, compared to 49.9MWp at the end of 2008. The group has exceeded the target it announced at the beginning of 2009 of 100MWp to 150MWp in service or under construction.

During the second half of 2009, EDF Energies Nouvelles commissioned 53.3MWp in gross capacity (49.2MWp net) for its own account. The majority of these projects were installed in Italy, Canada, and France. The latter half of the year saw the commissioning of large ground-based facilities, such as the 10.5MWp La Roseraye plant on Reunion Island and the 23.4MWp Arnprior plant in Canada.

EDF Energies Nouvelles also sold ground-based and roof array projects as part of its DSSA activities. Among these were the 5.1MWp Mangassaye facility commissioned on Reunion Island and 11.6MWp in roof array projects in France.

As of December 31, 2009, the group's solar capacity under construction for its own account and for third parties came to a total of 138.8MWp. This figure is up from 29.1MWp at December 31, 2008. The majority of these projects are located in France, Spain and Italy.
