New Jersey’s Lieutenant Governor was on hand along with officials from FedEx ground and BP Solar to celebrate the official dedication of the large rooftop solar-electric system on FedEx Ground’s New Jersey hub. The rooftop project was completed last December and marks the third solar power project between a FedEx operating company and BP Solar.

“Today we set the new standard for US rooftop solar energy installations,” said Reyad Fezzani, CEO of BP Solar. “BP is a long-time partner of FedEx and we are proud to transform this basic rooftop into a green energy plant delivering the highest lifetime value. It is truly a testament to New Jersey’s policy leadership in promoting renewable energy.”

The new system boasts a 2.42MW solar power system that covers around 3.3 acres of roof top space. Around 12,400 solar panels were used in the installation, which according to BP Solar, is the largest rooftop installation in the US. The new rooftop system is said to be able to produce around 2.6 million kW hours of electricity per year. The companies’ power purchase agreement sees BP Solar operating and maintaining the system while FedEx Ground purchases the electricity.
