Ferrostaal announces its solar accomplishments at the World Future Energy Summit

18 January 2010 | By Emma Hughes | News > Power Generation

Ferrostaal will present its solar activities at the World Future Energy Summit, taking place in Abu Dhabi from January 18 to 21. The company will also announce the order intake for the construction of the parabolic trough power plant Andasol 3 in southern Spain.

The Andasol 3 project had to wait for pre-registration from Minister Miguel Sebastián before it could be completed. However, during this period the country's feed-in tariff rate was ensured. The Spanish cabinet has now given confirmation for the project to go ahead.

The pre-registration the parabolic trough power plant Ibersol in the Spanish region of Extremadura has now also been obtained. Similarly to Andasol 3 this project is scheduled to have a capacity of 50MW and to be completed in 2013.

Both the Andasol 1 and Andasol 2 projects have an output of approximately 50MW. These plants have already been connected to the power grid and started test operation.

For the construction of the parabolic trough power plant, Ferrostaal, together with partners, has taken on the role of the general contractor for engineering, procurement and construction.

"For Andasol 3 we are project developer, constructor and co-owner, thereby underlining our commitment to sustainable power generation," said Dr. Klaus Lesker, the board member responsible for the solar energy business segment. Ferrostaal is implementing Andasol 3 together with RWE Innogy, RheinEnergie, Solar Millennium and Stadtwerke München (Munich City Utilities).
