MEMC cuts wafer price in contract with Gintech

18 February 2009 | By Patricia Johnson | News > Materials

MEMCAs reported by Barron’s, MEMC Electronic Materials announced an agreement with Gintech Energy to cut the contract price. This is a change to part of the original October 2006 10-year supply agreement to supply Gintech with solar-grade silicon wafers. The new agreement allows generated revenue to remain the same, yet increases volumes and reduces prices.

This decrease in prices indicates a similar severe drop in the price of polysilicon, which has declined from US$450/kg in 2008 to US$130-150/kg. The Barron’s report speculates that the price could drop further to US$40-60.
