The groundbreaking ceremony for Chevron Energy Solution’s and the City of Brea’s new solar project was held today to commemorate the beginning of construction of the project. The solar project is expected to save the city over US$13 million in net energy savings over the lifetime of the solar project and has an anticipated completion date of sometime in 2011.
"We are pleased to work with the City of Brea to help them become the largest municipal producer of solar energy in Orange County and also improve their energy efficiency," said Jim Davis, president of Chevron Energy Solutions. "This project demonstrates how cities and other municipalities can learn from Brea how to reduce their energy costs and use clean, renewable power."
The solar panels will be installed on Brea’s community center, civic and cultural center, and reservoir city pump yard for a total of 1.8MW. After completion, Brea will be the biggest municipal producer of solar energy in Orange County. Chevron Energy has designed the system and will build, install, operate, maintain, measure, and guarantee its performance for the city.
