Three solar photovoltaic power systems were commissioned last week on the rooftops of the BMG facility in Glauchau in the Saxony region of Germany. The >2.4MW installations, equipped with 33,400 First Solar thin-film PV panels, were developed by Colexon Energy. 

Colexon says that one of the challenges on the project, which began construction in July, has been the maximum roof load of 15 kg/sq meter. The company's engineers and SC SolarCraft developed an innovative lightweight, nonpenetrating mounting system, which enables a very efficient use of the available roof area. Shading effects are minimized, so more modules can be placed on the roof due to an optimized module inclination angle of 10 degrees.
