Sanyo plans new solar cell plant in Japan

SANYOSanyo Electric Co. has allegedly confirmed that it is to construct its new crystalline cell manufacturing plant in Japan, according to an AFP report on Tuesday. The report cited a Sanyo spokesperson, Kumiko Makino, as saying that the plant, to be sited in Osaka prefecture in western Japan, would be operational by the end of 2010. It was also claimed that Sanyo has further plans to establish another facility for manufacture of another solar cell type with Nippon Oil Corp.

Ms. Makino was also reported as claiming that Sanyo’s solar cell output would be doubled to reach close to 680,000kW per annum once the new Osaka plant was put into operation.
