Sharp seeks 20% growth in solar sales in FY2009

27 April 2009 | By Mark Osborne | News > Market Watch

Sharp Corporation posted its first annual loss of approximately US$1.3 billion for its FY2008. However, solar module sales increased 4% compared to 2007, though the division also returned a loss for the year. Sharp expects the stimulus packages in both the U.S. and Japan to boost demand for solar and guided revenue growth expectations of approximately 20% in FY2009.

The company also reiterated it plans for module production and power generation in Italy, with partner Enel SpA and noted production had started at its new thin-film plant in Katsuragi, Japan.
