Solar power subsidies coming to Beijing

Chinese FlagAn industry official reported to the South China Morning Post that Beijing is expected to enact subsidized prices for solar power production as soon as late summer. After looking at the policies of developed nations, the National Energy Commission of the National Development and Reform Commission has taken preliminary steps to enact subsidized rates for solar energy.

The subsidy will be financed through a renewable energy fund built by small surcharges to electricity users based on usage volume, according to Zhao Yuwen, head of the China Renewable Energy Society's photovoltaic committee. Monies in this fund are also used on other clean energy projects. Beijing also plans a preferential tariff of ¥1.09/KW-hour for solar projects.
