Tool order: Fraunhofer ISE orders AIXTRON’s 2800G4-R MOCVD

23 June 2009 | By Emma Hughes | News > Cell Processing

AIXTRON MOCVDThe Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE) announced today that it has ordered an AIXTRON 2800G4-R MOCVD tool with automated wafer handler, due to arrive in the fourth quarter of 2009.

Purchase of this tool will be funded by the BMBF and the Fraunhofer Society in order to program and develop next generation triple-and multi-junction solar cells in cooperation with industrial partners.

Fraunhofer's Dr Frank Dimroth said, "We selected an AIXTRON MOCVD system because of its high degree of flexibility and reproducibility that is achieved with the Planetary Reactor technology."

This tool will enable the company to change wafer configurations flexibly to 8.5inch and will also allow for the incorporation of advanced in-situ monitoring technologies.

"The new AIXTRON technology allows us to transfer our R&D processes up to high-volume mass-production which is a prime target for our development project," comments Dr Dimroth.

Eventually the tool will improve the development of systems, components, materials and processes in the areas of the thermal use of solar energy, solar building, solar cells, electrical power supplies, chemical energy conversion, energy storage and the rational use of energy.
