The first and perhaps less interesting of two planned online auctions of equipment from bankrupt Abound Solar’s CdTe is set to take place on September 18. The first auction is for its thin-film test equipment that was used at former Abound Solar test facilities located in Loveland, Fort Collins and Longmont, Colorado.
Apparently, the Great American Group, which is conducting the auction, said that there were a large number - though not revealed - of completed CdTe modules available. These were ready to ship on pallets but only on offer via private negotiation.
“We have a superb offering of module manufacturing and related facilities equipment, along with test chambers, microscopes, machine shop equipment, plant equipment and many other items,” said Paul Brown, Great American Group vice president of wholesale and industrial services. “This will be a multi-million dollar offering. So far, we’ve received significant global interest from potential bidders from the solar industry, along with the semiconductor industry and related sectors.”
It could be assumed that the most interest already generated, according to the auctioneers, is related to the second auction for equipment at Abound Solar’s former main production facility in Longmont.
This will be conducted live on site during a two-day webcast auction, beginning on October 2, 2012.
