Arise Technologies expects 2009 revenue down

Despite a strong rebound in solar cell demand in the second half of last year, polysilicon and solar cell producer Arise Technologies has guided revenue results for 2009 to below those set in 2008. Total revenue is expected to be approximately US$31.7 million, compared to US$35.7 million for 2008. Going concern issues were raised in November, with the company seeking to sell its silicon-based assets.

“During the fourth quarter, we saw further improvements in key areas of our business. We are encouraged by these results as they mark a third consecutive quarter of increased shipments, and point to an ongoing increase in demand for PV solar cells,” said Vern Heinrichs, president/CEO.

“The German solar market continues to show encouraging signs of recovery and appears poised to achieve solid growth throughout the first half of 2010. In Canada, our systems division is currently working on a number of initiatives to capitalize on the Ontario FIT program and the acceleration of the Ontario solar market’s development,” he added.

The company also said that fourth-quarter 2009 revenue would reach approximately US$11.3 million, compared to US$18.9 million in the fourth quarter of 2008.

Shipments for the quarter are expected to be approximately 7MW, a 100% increase from the 3.5MW shipped in the third quarter of 2009. Total PV cell shipments for 2009 are expected to exceed 15MW, in line with previous guidance.

    Photovoltaics International 16th Edition

This sixteenth edition of Photovoltaics International marks four years of production of the quarterly journal. As always, our focus is on efficiency and quality improvement and cost reduction in manufacturing. As 2012 rolls along, companies are falling by the wayside due to supply and demand issues, ASP declines and drastic governmental subsidy cuts. A clear picture of 2012 is offered through papers from the likes of TÜV Rheinland, Fraunhofer ISE, SEMI PV Group and EPIA, amongst others.
