Ascent Solar names former Dow Corning exec Robert Johns as VP of sales

In its second executive personnel announcement in as many days, flexible CIGS thin-film PV developer Ascent Solar has named global sales and business development veteran Robert "Bob" Johns as its new VP of sales. Johns will report to Rafael Gutierrez, the company's SVP of sales and marketing.

Before joining Ascent, Johns spent 29 years with Dow Corning, where he held numerous director-level positions in the specialty chemicals and advanced technologies and ventures businesses. In his most recent position, he lived in Shanghai, where he led Dow Corning's global customer service organization. 

While global director of new business programs, his responsibilities included a portfolio of new business teams focused on high-growth markets, including solar, compound semiconductors, and other emerging high-priority new business programs. 

Johns holds a BBA in management from Western Michigan University and is an alumnus of the executive development program at the Kellogg School of Management of Northwestern University.
