Arizona State University (ASU) has dedicated five new solar installations, totalling 1.88MW of electricity, which is enough to power nearly 500 homes in Arizona. Michael Crow, President, ASU and Don Robinson, President of Utility APS attended the ceremony.
Two of the five structures that make up phase one of ASU's Campus Solarization are owned and operated by ASU – the thin-film system, Tyler Street Parking Structure, with an output of 30kW and the fixed polycrystalline rooftop array system of Biodesign A and B, which totals 150kW.
Apache Parking Structure (APS) at 880kW, Stadium Parking Structure at 711kW and Coor Hall at 108kW are all owned and operated by Sun Devil Solar LLC. The Apache and Stadium Parking Structure installations are Arizona’s largest non-utility owned installations.
ASU, which eventually plans to install 12MW of solar power across its campuses, will receive financial incentives made possible by APS's Renewable Energy Incentive Program and allow all APS customers to receive incentives for installing renewable energy systems such as solar electric, solar water heaters, and wind mills on their homes or businesses.
