Chinese manufacturer BYD Company is to build a 400MW PV module assembly plant in Brazil  at a cost of around US$50 million, adding to its planned electric bus manufacturing facility in the state of São Paulo.

BYD noted that the new facility would be operational in the first half of 2016, creating around 200 jobs. The company had previously announced an R&D facility and module assembly in Brazil but had not outlined the scale of the operations.

BYD’s Director of Government Relations Adalberto Maluf said: “Our cutting-edge double glass solar panel will bring unparalleled efficiency and durability, making clean and decentralised power generation increasingly more competitive in Brazil.”
