Carmanah Technologies receives CanSIA Solar PV Project of the Year Award

Carmanah Technologies Corporation has received the CanSIA “Solar PV Project of the Year Award” for its grid-tied solar power system installed on the Jean Canfield Building in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada. At the building’s opening in the spring of 2008, the Department of Public Works and Government Services Canada affirmed that the facility was “one of the most environmentally friendly buildings ever constructed by the Government of Canada.”

The Carmanah grid-tied solar power system uses a 636-square metre rooftop array to produce up to 111,000W of electricity from the sun. Ron St. Onge, Project Manger with Public Works and Government Services Canada stated that the solar power system delivers between 8 to 10% of the building’s electrical requirements and added that, “It requires virtually zero maintenance, and aside from monitoring electrical production, it’s self sufficient.”
