FHR Anlagenbau, the wholly-owned subsidiary of centrotherm photovoltaics, is to supply several CIGS roll-to-roll coating systems to Leipzig-based Solarion. The systems, which are to be shipped throughout 2011, will form the central component of a 20MW annual capacity CIGS thin-film solar cell production system. Solarion is further planning to expand production to 180MW at the Leipzig site together with strategic investor Walsin Lihwa Corporation of Taiwan.
"CIGS technology provides the highest efficiency potential in the photovoltaic thin-film area," said Dr. Peter Fath, CTO of centrotherm photovoltaics. "These flexible, light and unbreakable cells are also particularly suited to large industrial roofs, and applications such as the textile, automotive and aerospace industries."
"The tremendous success of our many years of cooperation is reflected in the fact that, with the fourth generation of these foil coating systems, we are now taking the step into the mass production of flexible CIGS solar cells," said Dr. Reinhard Fendler, FHR Anlagenbau managing director.

Actually, PV panels are incredibly cheap right now.The only reason they appear expensive is when compared against fossil fuels, like oil, which are already becoming MUCH more expensive, and which will continue to do so for many, many year. Buy PV now, or kick yourself for not doing so later.
