This sixteenth edition of Photovoltaics International marks four years of production of the quarterly journal. As always, our focus is on efficiency and quality improvement and cost reduction in manufacturing. As 2012 rolls along, companies are falling by the wayside due to supply and demand issues, ASP declines and drastic governmental subsidy cuts. A clear picture of 2012 is offered through papers from the likes of TÜV Rheinland, Fraunhofer ISE, SEMI PV Group and EPIA, amongst others.

The Lux research should be considered with a high degree of scepticism as it fails to address all the companies working in the field. Indeed Lux Research only looks at those companies and groups that fall within its radar and who have been promoting their development activities. There are a ream of other companies and research groups that are working in the OPV field that have been keeping their work largely hidden from public scrutiny. Polysolar Ltd working in collaboration with Pilkington and Solvay and one of the most established companies in OPV are not even mentioned in the report.
