Conergy Asia-Pacific to develop 2MW power plant for Saudi Arabian University

Marking the first such large-scale solar power project in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region, Conergy Asia-Pacific has agreed to design, construct and manage a 2MW solar power plant for Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). Located in Thuwal, north of the city of Jeddah, the cost of the project is estimated at €11.3 million and will feature Conergy’s mounting systems and solar modules supplied by SunPower Corp.

Saudi-based National Solar Systems will oversee all installation and operational management requirements, while the project as a whole is being managed by Saudi Aramco on behalf of the Saudi Government. Several large contractors will manage the construction of the plant, which will consist of two rooftop solar plants, each with an output of 1MW, being installed on the North and South Laboratories of the University. The installation in its entirety will take up 11,577 square metres of roof space and produce 3,332MWh of energy.
