Conergy Deutschland GmbH has announced its completion of installation work on what is currently the world’s third-largest thin-film solar park in the world. The park, located in Trier, (Rhineland-Palatinate), has an output of 8.4MW and has been financed by Stadtwerke Trier to the tune of €30 million. It was completed in six months and has now been connected to the grid, benefiting from a feed-in tariff of 35.49 cents per kWh, according to the company.
Fitted with over 112,500 First Solar thin-film modules, park itself covers an area of 25,000 square meters. Conergy used 40,000 of its Solar Linea mounting systems, and 28 inverter modules of the Conergy IPG 300K series. The plant is expected to produce over nine million kWh of energy per annum.
"The project shows that power supply companies have now discovered photovoltaics for themselves," commented Jochen Kirmaier, Conergy Deutschland’s Managing Director. "In light of the current capital market crisis, solar energy has now become a safe and sought-after investment. In addition to the attractive feed-in tariffs, these are, above all, qualitatively premium solar power systems".
