New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine signed three pieces of legislation helping to develop the possibility of solar energy and wind energy installations, while also supporting co-generation products.
Bill S2265 requires home developers to offer solar energy systems during the construction of new homes, also allowing the Commissioner of Community Affairs, in consultation with the Board of Public Utilities, to be required to adopt standards on the technical capability of the solar energy systems ready to be installed. Bill S1299 authorizes certain wind and solar facilities to be within industrial zones. Bill S-1932 allows the Board of Public Utilities to use assets from the Retail Margin Fund to offer a number of grants to be used for clean energy cogeneration products. A US$450 rebate will be given for each kW powered by a cogeneration facility.
With the use of clean energy, last year’s Energy Master Plan (EMP) hopes to reduce energy usage by 20% by 2020, in addition to aiming to produce 30% of the state's energy from renewable sources by 2020
Governor Corzine said, “The bills I am signing today will further our ongoing efforts to protect our environment to combat global climate change and make our state and nation less dependent on foreign energy sources.”
