CSA certifies Sustainable Energy solar PV inverters for North American market

Sustainable Energy Technologies said that its Sunergy low- and extra-low-voltage photovoltaic inverters have been certified and listed by the Canadian Standards Association to UL 1741 and CSA C22.2 No.107.1-01 standards. The certifications allow the company to make the technology commercially available for sale and installation across North America.

The CSA/UL certified products target the North American commercial market with a 208V AC output, peak conversion efficiencies in excess of 96%, and a nominal 5000W power output, according to the company. Follow-on products will include different power ratings and a 240V AC output for residential applications.

Sustainable Energy claims that the Sunergy inverters, which have an outdoor power rating range of -40° to 50°C, are ideal for the Ontario market, since they can be integrated into rooftop solar systems, reducing installation and ongoing maintenance costs associated with indoor-rated inverters. The company also points to the safety benefits of the technology's low operating voltage.

“Designed and manufactured in Canada, the Sunergy inverter platform is one of Canada’s most significant contributions yet to expanding the use of solar power around the world,” said Brent Harris the firm's VP of product development.

“For the first time ever, the performance, cost, and safety advantages of a massively parallel PV system design are available with an industry standard from factor. Achieving certification for the North American market marks a key milestone in our efforts to make this technology available globally," he added.

The company has said it will soon announce the site of an inverter manufacturing facility to be located in Ontario.
