Because of increased demand for its grid-connected solar inverters, Danfoss plans to expand its manufacturing capacity to 1GW at its production facilities in Graasten, Denmark. The company says that the expansion will be completed in the first quarter of 2010.
"Despite the financial crisis’ general effect on the European photovoltaic market this year, we have seen very high sales growth, which will continue the rest of the year," says Henrik Raunkjær, president of Danfoss Solar Inverters. "The three-phase TripleLynx inverter in the 10-15KW range has become a huge success in both small and large installations, and the demand for the UniLynx range for residential applications has also exceeded our expectations."
The expansion of the inverter production capacity will be take place at Danfoss’ production facilities in Graasten, Denmark--close to the German border and 15km from the current premises in Sonderborg. Some 120 employees involved in product development, sales, marketing, and administration will move to the new site.
"We aim to be among the leading inverter suppliers in the photovoltaic industry," notes Raunkjær, "so the 2010 production capacity increase is an important step in our expansion plans."
The company says the inverter business unit, which has hired about 20 additional production personnel in recent months, anticipates growth rates of around 50% in 2010.
