A 8.7MW solar farm in the Prachin Buri Province of Thailand has been completed using DuPont Apollo thin film modules. Built in collaboration with L Solar 1 Company and Loxley Plc, said to be one of Thailand’s largest IT conglomerates, the solar farm will be grid-connected by the fourth quarter of 2011. the plant is expected to have an average production capacity of 12,000,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) per year.

“We chose DuPont Apollo thin film PV modules for this project due to their high quality and reliability and the modules’ superior temperature coefficient which is especially suitable for Thailand’s hot climatic conditions with abundant sunshine,” said Piboon Piboontum, vice president of Loxley.

The L Solar 1 solar farm includes an education centre. L Solar 1 is a joint venture between Loxley Public Company Limited, MFC Energy Fund, Leonics Company Limited and Dr. Prasert Shusang, a private investor. L Solar 1 was established in 2009 with sole focus on VSPP projects, which allow up to 10MW of electric power to be produced and sold to the Thai grid.

    Photovoltaics International 16th Edition

This sixteenth edition of Photovoltaics International marks four years of production of the quarterly journal. As always, our focus is on efficiency and quality improvement and cost reduction in manufacturing. As 2012 rolls along, companies are falling by the wayside due to supply and demand issues, ASP declines and drastic governmental subsidy cuts. A clear picture of 2012 is offered through papers from the likes of TÜV Rheinland, Fraunhofer ISE, SEMI PV Group and EPIA, amongst others.

This digital interactive Lite sees Tom Cheyney follow Agua Caliente’s progress on becoming one of first truly utility-scale PV power farms, where 40–50MW (AC) will be commissioned by the end of the year. We also feature one of the world’s largest silicon thin-film PV power plants, Avenal; a report on warnings of the collapse of module prices from Solarbuzz and PI-Berlin presents tips on PV module testing. A print version of this edition will be distributed at Solar Power International 2011 in Dallas, Texas.
