Dyesol has announced that it has constructed Dye Sensitized Solar (DCS) solar panel prototypes. The panels exceed the size of 120cm x 60cm, which makes them the largest single-circuit series connected DCS panel to date, to be used in BIPV applications.
A joint venture between Dyesol and DyeTec Solar have overcome the impediments of the assembly of a large scale glass-based DCS panels. The assembly was only limited by the availability of prototyping equipment, Transparent Conduction Oxide (TCO) glass and DCS materials.
Richard Caldwell, executive chairman of Dyesol Ltd commented: “This is a significant achievement as the BIPV market for glass is expected to reach $6.4 billion (USD) in revenues in 2016, according to the 2012 NanoMarkets report. This opportunity represents considerable demand for both DyeTec products and partner materials. Glass-based BIPV is where technological progress and energy policy merge creating more sustainable urban environments, where buildings become energy self sufficient and energy secure.
