Thin film perovskite solar cell developer Dyesol has secured funding of AUD$449,000 (US$353,000) from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA).
ARENA is funding the development of a technology roadmap for Dysol’s perovskite solar cell technology through to commercialisation.

Acting ARENA CEO Ian Kay said: “Perovskite cells have been demonstrated at laboratory scale but have never before been mass produced. Dyesol will map out the techniques and requirements for working towards scalable manufacturing of high-quality, uniform perovskite cells that achieve efficiency, durability and stability targets.”
According to Kay, Dyesol was targeting a cost benchmark of US$0.10 per kWh, on par with conventional c-Si cells.
“This would be a considerable achievement given silicon PV’s maturity as a technology, and provides further scope for reduction in the cost of energy as manufacturing volumes grow,” added Kay.
Dyesol Chief Technical Officer Dr Damion Milliken said that the funding from ARENA would support the development of perovskite solar cells by bedding down critical manufacturing input materials and techniques necessary for commercialisation of a perovskite solar cell product.
