Sustainable energy solutions company Econcern has announced its intention to install 42MW of solar capacity in southern Italy. Located in Puglia, the initial seven 1MW solar parks that comprise Phase 1 of the project are expected to be completed and in operation by early 2010. Project Trullo, as the €200 million venture is being dubbed, will contribute an additional 15% of installed capacity to Italy’s current level of 280MW.
Given the growth potential of the Italian solar market, Econcern also revealed that it is looking at other potential projects in Italy and intends to expand its portfolio in the country to at least 50MW.
Dennis Lange, Econcern's Director of project development, said, "The Italian solar market has exceptional growth potential. It is anticipated that it will grow from 280MW installed by the end of 2008 to 5,000MW by 2020. We have ambitions to become a leading player in the Italian solar market. As a company we have a mission to ensure a sustainable energy supply for everyone. Development of major solar energy assets will have a big role in creating a sustainable future."
