El Salvador-based power distribution company DelSur is tendering for the development of 100MW of solar and 50MW of wind projects in the country.

The deadline for the projects being connected to the grid will be 1 February 2020 for the solar projects and 1 February 2019 for the wind projects. PPA’s will be signed with other local distribution companies.

In August 2015, El Salvador’s National Energy Council (CNE) invited bids for 150MW of renewable energy projects, with the process is being supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The country is expecting 100MW of solar projects to come online in 2016 after its previous competitive tendering.

In August 2014 large-scale solar developer SolarReserve started developing a 20MW PV plant in El Salvador – the first large-scale PV project ever built in the Latin American country.
