enXco and Carrier Clinic sign Power Purchase Agreement for solar array

enXco, a subsidiary of EDF Energies Nouvelles, has signed a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement with the non-profit healthcare system Carrier Clinic, located in Belle Mead, New Jersey. This agreement will spur the development of a solar photovoltaic array that could reach 1.9MW when completed. enXco will own and operate the system and will supply its output to Carrier Clinic on a net-metering basis.

Construction is scheduled to commence this spring, with energy production expected to begin in the in the second quarter of 2009. The ground-mount fixed tilt solar array will be built on 12 acres, to be the largest solar system on a New Jersey hospital campus, and will utilize First Solar modules deployed from EDF EN’s global supply agreement.

The solar array will qualify for New Jersey Energy Certificates, essential to funding the project. It will be co-developed by Clean Energy Holdings in association with Trinity Solar.

“This photovoltaic array will provide reliable, economical and socially responsible energy to provide about 50% of the entire facility’s electrical services, which run 24 hours a day, 365 days a year,” said C. Richard Sarle, president and CEO of Carrier Clinic.

New Jersey’s Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) mandates that renewable energy sources will produce 22.5% of the state’s electricity by 2021, 2.12% or 1,500MW of which will be generated from solar power.
