First Solar signs up for 55MW project with Los Angeles utility company

In the second major project announcement in as many days, First Solar, Inc. has entered into a 55MW solar power project in the Niland region of Imperial County, California. The deal, which will be undertaken with the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP), is scheduled for commencement in 2010 for a 2011 completion date.

The company embarked on a deal with Southern California Edison this week for the construction of two solar power installations in Riverside and San Bernardino, California with a combined generation capacity of 550MW.

The LADWP project is subject to building permits from Imperial County, and is also pending approval from the Los Angeles City Council and the mayor of Los Angeles.
