Istanbul-based energy company Merk Solar Enerji Çözümleri San. ve Tic. Ltd. Şti. has teamed up with Gehrlicher Solar to establish a joint-venture company to expand the ground- and roof-mounted solar power plant market in Turkey and neighbouring countries. Both of the component companies will have an equal share in the new partnership.
The JV company will be known as Gehrlicher Merk Solar Enerji A.Ş. and will also participate in trading of solar systems and components via a local partner network. The company will be involved in project development, engineering, EPC services, financing and operation of power plants, and has also cited plans to set up local partnerships with system integrators in Mediterranean, South Eastern and Eastern regions of Turkey.
“Due to its fast growth and increasing energy demand, Turkey is a highly attractive market for solar power”, commented Klaus Gehrlicher, CEO of Gehrlicher Solar. “The Turkish government acted thoughtful and forward-looking when creating a feed-in tariff which allows interesting investments in renewable energies, but which is at the same time very close to the general electricity tariff. These are ideal preconditions for a reasonable and sustainable market growth.”
