Germany’s Baden-Wuerttemberg’s Main-Tauber-Kreis will be home to a new 1.9MW solar park designed, planned and constructed by Gehrlicher Solar. The Heckfeld solar project recently broke ground on the site of a former landfill and will cover over 22 acres of land. First Solar will be providing 23,640 solar modules for the project, which is anticipated to generate 2 million kilowatt-hours of solar electricity per year. SMA has agreed to supply three inverters for the solar project that is planned to reach grid connection by the end of May.

Joachim Thees, a board member for the solar project’s one investor, BürgerEnergie Tauberfranken (Tauberfranken Citizens’ Energy) cooperative, expressed the cooperative’s excitement with the project, saying, “For the first time, such a project is being put in place in the region by the joint financial efforts of as many citizens as possible. The success of the solar system, the financial gain and the resulting purchasing power will directly benefit the people and businesses in our region."

    Photovoltaics International 16th Edition

This sixteenth edition of Photovoltaics International marks four years of production of the quarterly journal. As always, our focus is on efficiency and quality improvement and cost reduction in manufacturing. As 2012 rolls along, companies are falling by the wayside due to supply and demand issues, ASP declines and drastic governmental subsidy cuts. A clear picture of 2012 is offered through papers from the likes of TÜV Rheinland, Fraunhofer ISE, SEMI PV Group and EPIA, amongst others.
