Greek PV installer GreenTop has completed a 500kW PV project located near the city of Vagia Viotias in Greece.

The project has been equipped with 48 9000NT type DEGERtracker tracking systems which incorporate Deger’s maximum light detection (MLD) technology. Moreover, each tracking system unit is equipped with 42 PV modules.

According to Deger, the 500kW project is unique in that it was built without any concrete foundations and instead is supported by the company’s steel roots. The steel roots provide a firm anchor for the system and enable Deger’s tracking systems to be installed easily and quickly. As a result, the PV system was installed in just one month.

Ioannis Pistiolis, CEO of GreenTop commented: “We are exceptionally happy that we decided to use the steel roots from Deger to anchor the system. We had a lot of rain during the construction work, and the soil was very damp. In this case we would have had serious problems with concrete foundations. Instead the entire construction process went perfectly.”

The project, which is owned and operated by Greece-based Kalyviotis Bros, marks the second major order from Greece for Deger and the first partnership with GreenTop.

Pistiolis added: “In Greece we already installed solar parks with a total output of approximately 20MW, but Vagia Viotias is our first project with Deger systems. We followed the recommendation of one of our partners who already used DEGERtrackers to realise several projects in recent years, and who is very satisfied with the robustness and yields offered by this technology.”

With an additional 30MW of PV projects in the pipeline for Greece, GreenTop may well consider using Deger tracking systems again. Pistiolis said: “Deger systems make a very good impression, and they can be constructed quickly and easily. If we get the same good yields as our partner, then I can imagine cooperating with Deger in the future as well.”
