GreenVolts has re-emerged with seeming aplomb from the disaster of 2009 with its new CPV system that it has branded as the PV industry’s “first complete and fully integrated solar system”.

Now, with a US$20 million investment from global power and automation technology group, ABB and having raised the remainder of the funds, the system has been installed in various locations throughout the US. The company claims the installations are producing between 30 – 40% more energy than traditional PV.

Through this investment, ABB has access to GreenVolts' proprietary technology and can now offer turnkey solutions for CPV plants in addition to its current capabilities in concentrated solar thermal and conventional PV power plants. The investment was made through ABB Technology Ventures, ABB's venture capital arm, in a funding round that includes existing GreenVolts investor, Oak Investment Partners.

Key features of the GreenVolts system includes: greater energy yield with a two-axis tracking system which follows the sun, bi-polar, transformerless inverters and increased durability thanks to weather and solar monitoring stations at each site. GreenVolts boasts that its energy management software, ISIS (Intelligent Solar Information System), offers real-time monitoring of site conditions and energy production, with remote access and control of the entire system.

“Our complete system approach changes the entire solar experience,” said David Gudmundson, president and CEO of GreenVolts. “With GreenVolts, customers get simplicity, elegance, and precision in a utility-scale solar system that delivers higher performance and richer energy management than anything else in the world.”

“There is nothing like this in the industry today. By providing a complete system with a fully integrated design, GreenVolts is raising the bar,” said Jonathan W. Postal, SVP business development at Main Street Power. “We have had success with GreenVolts on our recent project in Yuma, Arizona and are excited to work with them again on future projects.”

“Having built numerous solar projects from various solar vendors, we appreciate the fast and efficient installation of the GreenVolts system, which minimizes the possibility of mistakes, thus providing better cost estimates and on-time schedules,” said Brian Bothman, vice president at Robert A. Bothman Construction. “Their approach simplifies everything, from logistics and site engineering, training and installation, to final commissioning.”
