HP exec becomes Vice President of Government Affairs at Applied Materials

Gary Fazzino, a former Mayor of Palo Alto and Hewlett-Packard’s Vice President of Government and Public Affairs since May 2000 has joined Applied Materials as Vice President, Government Affairs, responsible for Applied’s global government relations programs.

“Energy and the environment are top policy priorities for governments around the world, and Applied Materials’ technology — from semiconductors to displays to solar — will be an important part of the solution,” said Mike Splinter, Chairman and CEO of Applied Materials. “Expanding relationships and engaging in dialogue with government are important to the long-term success of Applied Materials, and Gary’s proven ability to help shape public policy will be invaluable as we explore new markets and new lines of business.”

Prior to his role as a HP executive, Fazzino held a number of positions at HP, including Northwest Public Affairs manager, State Government Affairs manager and Director of Federal Public Policy in Washington, D.C. Fazzino also served as Mayor of Palo Alto from 1992-93 and again from 1999-2000. Fazzino holds a B.A. degree in Religious Studies from Stanford University, an M.A. degree in Public Policy from Occidental College, and an M.B.A. from the University of Washington.
