IEEE appoints E. James Prendergast to the role of Chief Operating Officer

On Thursday, March 4, E. James Prendergast has been appointed the new Executive Director of IEEE.  IEEE, the world’s largest technical professional society, is commemorating its 125th anniversary this year.

Dr. Prendergast, a native Australian with 28 years of experience in Fortune 100 companies, will become the Chief Operating Officer after a nearly eight-month search by IEEE’s Board of Directors.  An IEEE Senior Member, Prendergast has been a member of IEEE for 32 years.  Beginning April 6, he will take over the seven IEEE locations – both in the U.S. and overseas.  He takes over the position previously held by former IEEE Executive Director Jeffry W. Raynes, who resigned in June of 2008.

Before being appointed at IEEE, Prendergast had been Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at DuPont Electronic and Communication Technologies in Delaware as well as Vice President and Director of Motorola’s Physical Sciences Research Laboratories in Arizona.

A clear picture of 2012 is offered through papers from the likes of TÜV Rheinland, Fraunhofer ISE, SEMI PV Group and EPIA, amongst others.
