The Indian Government has launched its 1GW tender for rooftop solar projects on top of its property portfolio.
A draft programme was announced by the Solar Energy Corporation of India in August and has now been approved.

The country is targeting 40GW of rooftop solar by 2023. It acheived a cumulative rooftop install figure of 1GW earlier this year.
Under the terms of the programme, central government departments will be rewarded for achieving their own procurement targets. Bidders can lease the roof space from the departments and sign a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the associated department. Alternatively the department can buy the system outright. The majority, 70%, of the available capacity has been designated for the PPA and lease model.
A national competitive auction will now be established with one flat rate per state offered at the end of the process.
