Solexel has launched its new silicon solar cell at Intersolar, the company has announced. Mehrdad Moslehi, Solexel’s founder, introduced the disruptive ultra-thin PV cell, which is manufactured from trichlorosilane gas.
The company manufactures the largest ultra-thin crystalline solar cells with an efficiency of 19% and Solexel is further aiming at increasing the efficiency to 23.5% as well as 22% module efficiency. The cells backplane not just supports the cell but it also makes it pliable and the elimination of the high-cost production process will allow Solexel to produce modules at a cost of US$0.42/W.
