Inventux Technologies to mass-produce thin-film modules using Oerlikon’s micromorph technology

Oerlikon Solar’s micromorph technology for the mass production of thin-film silicon modules is to be implemented in daily manufacturing use by Inventux Technologies, AG. Inventux will, as a result of using Oerlikon’s technology, be capable of producing up to 33MWp of efficient thin-film silicon PV modules per annum. The new Berlin facility, officially opened on December 4th, was ramped up in just seven months.

The micromorph technology comprises an extra microcrystalline absorber to the amorphous silicon layer, which converts the red- and near-infrared energy yielding claimed efficiency increases of up to 50 percent. It is also claimed to produce more powerful modules, and is easily integrated to a production facility’s setup. Currently, first generation a-Si module efficiencies are in the region of 6.5 percent and Oerlikon Solar's second generation technology a-Si/μc-Si tandem structure has claimed to reach the 8.7% module efficiency range.
