Adding weight to the German solar industry’s attempts to prevent severe cuts to the feed-in tariff, the International Photovoltaic Equipment Association (IPVEA) has publically supported their efforts. The IPVEA noted that it recommended ‘measured and predictable steps relating to changes in the EEG.’
The association also raised concern for thousands of jobs that could be lost should the proposed changes come to fruition. They also claimed that PV installations in Germany could fall 40% in 2010.
The IPVEA also noted that it expected PV technology leadership would ‘migrate to the cheaper Asian countries,’ and that the impact would not only affect the solar cell and panel producers in Germany but also the engineering sector in general.
Importantly, the association noted that modern production technology from Germany and Europe contributes to the reduction of production costs of solar cells and towards a faster progression to net grid parity overall.
