Konarka and Webasto partner on organic solar cells for auto roof systems

Konarka's organic solar cells will be incorporated into Webasto's automobile roof systems.

Konarka Technologies and automobile supplier Webasto Roof Systems have announced their partnership on the integration of organic solar cells in automobile roof systems. Webasto plans to integrate the organic cells from Konarka while additionally working to increase their efficiency so that they can be used on various models of cars.

Dr. Jörg Löffler, global vice president of product group efficiency technologies explained, “We have had intensive discussions with automobile manufacturers on the value of organic solar cells. The organic solar cells from Konarka offer a transparent, light and cost-effective solution for use in roof systems. The main task of the cooperation will be increasing the efficiency of the solar cells to magnitudes suitable for automobiles.”
