The 78MW (DC) portion of a 148MW (DC) PV plant in Berlin was officially opened by the Prime Minister of Brandenburg. Developed by EPC contractor Saferay, the Senftenberg plants are located on a former open-pit mining area in Eastern Germany. The plant, which is part of what is being called the largest PV power plant complex in the world, was completed in three months and uses 330,000 crystalline solar modules and 62 central inverter stations.

“The realization of the solar park Senftenberg II and III within three months in cooperation with our highly efficient partner companies has set new standards in the building of large PV installations”, says project manager Juan Fernandez.

The complete solar park includes a 70MW (DC) plant, which shares a common infrastructure with Saferay’s plant and an 18MW (DC) plant that was installed last year. The complex therefore is stated to have a total installed capacity of 166MW (DC).

Three Germany banks helped finance the €150 million investment. Saferay was responsible for the financial structuring of the two-third portion of the 78MW plant that it owns and operates.
